In chapter 10 talks about Cognitive Behavior Therapy. The rational emotive behavior therapy was the first of cognitive behavior therapies. Rational emotive behavior therapy is based on assumption that human beings are born with a potential for both rational or straight. The relationship between therapist and client is essentially cognitive and directive behavioral process is a warm relationship. The REBT generally starts with clients disturbed feelings and intensely explores these feelings in connection with thoughts and behaviors.
I also like the R.E.B.T. I like that it starts with what exactly is bothering the feelings of the client as oppose to the therapist giving homework for them to do at home to see if the situation gets better. This is more of a realistic therapist that wants to develop a relationship with the client. It does not make the client feel defensive or upset like gestalt therapy. This therapy also tries to get to the root of the problem that the client is having.
In response to Jeff, I think that REPT is a good way to get clients to open up and a good way to start of a session. I think that it is helpful in many ways but however I don't believe its meant for everyone.
in response to jeff I agree with the REBT cognitive behavior for many reasons you stated. but one imp articular is the relationship between therapist and client is essentially cognitive and directive behavioral process is a warm relationship.
chapter 10 discusses cognitive behavior therapy. In this therapy, the therapist recognizes and changes negative thoughts and beliefs of what the client presents. I found albert Ellis very interesting in this chapter. I agree with him that therapy is seen as an educational process because you must learn and grow in order to overcome. But i do not believe that people do not need to be accepted and loved. When we are birth into the world our parent/guardians show us forms of love and acceptance to be a part of a family. Without love and acceptance many people will feel unwanted, possibly comitting suicide, become depressed, feel isolated and alone. Another thing that i believed was true with R.E.B.T's is that our emotions stem from our beliefs, reactions to life situations. That stood out to me because many people percieve things based on their experience whether its good or bad. Overall i like this form of therapy than behavior therapy.
In chapter 10, it talks about "REBT" which was the first of the cognitive behavior therapies, and today it continues to be a major behavioral approach. Rebt is based on the assumption that cognitions, emotions, and behavios interact significantly and have a reciprocal cause and effect relationship. I like how this type of theraphy dose not always talk's about the clients past. I also like A-B-C framework because its touches on the clients feelings, thoughts, events, and behavior. I like this type of therapy because i feel like theres always room for improvement.
In reply to Shaniece, I believe that this type of therapy can also make ways for improvement. It helps the client be able to talk about different feelings they may be having as well as talking about different things as oppose to being on the same topic all the time. I also believe that there is a cause and effect relationship to peoples emotions and behaviors. People usually do not tend to have a feeling about something, or act a certain way about something, unless they have experienced something that has allowed them to feel the way they do.
In response to Alena, I agree with everything you said especially about having negative thoughts because if a person's thoughts is full of negativity, the person might create more problems for themselves. That's why it is better to look and see the good in every bad situations. And that's why I like this therapy too because it gets straight to the point asking the client what is causing them to have those thoughts, its not wasting too much time on unimportant stuff.
In response to Shaniece, I also like how this type of therapy doesn't just talk about the past but its rational about what is causing the client to behave that way or having those thoughts. I also like how the REBT focuses on teaching the clients ways to carry on their own therapy without the direct intervention of a therapist. I like this because clients need to learn to be independent.
In response to Alena, I agree with you when you say this type of therapy can also make room for improvement because i feel like if a person is willing to improve things that shows that they really want the help
In response to Alena, I like the therapist recognizes and changes negative thoughts and beliefs of what the client presents. Another thing I like how therapist try the negative thoughts to positive.I also believe was true with R.E.B.T's is that our emotions stem from our beliefs, reactions to life's situation.
Chapter 10 talked about cognitive therapy and REBT. The cognitive therapy focuses on specific problem areas and the reasons the depressed clients give for their symptoms. And like behavior therapy, this therapy gives the client homework assignments so the client can help themselves. REBT emphasizes thinking, judging, deciding, and doing. With this type of approach Ellis believed that we are responsible for maintaining self- destructive ideas and attitudes that influence our daily transactions. I kind of agree with this because all of us handle situations differently and our reaction to a situation can either worsen the situation or make it better. If we react badly to a situation we might cause a bigger problem that wasn't there to begin with but if the situation over power us, we still got the little strength in us to not let it affect us as much.
In response to Kam, I love how the client gets homework i feel like its making the client help themselves without even realizing it. I also agree with you when you say the way we handle situaion may cause the situation to get better or worst.
In response to kambaja, I also like when the client homework so they help themselves. I also like how you talk about all of us handle situations differently and our reaction to a situation can either worsen the situation or make it better.I do agree with this statement.
Chapter ten was about cognitive behavior therapy. This type of therapy was founded by Albert Ellis and Aaron Beck. They created the term REBT, which stands for rational emotive behavior therapy. REBT assumes that thinking, evaluating, analyzing, questioning, doing, practicing, and re-deciding are at the base of behavior change. The application of REBT includes individual therapy, ongoing group therapy marathon encounter groups, brief therapy, marriage and family therapy, sex therapy, and classroom situations.
in response to molly I agree with this method of therapy because there are more than one way to have a therapeutic session because what may work for one person may not work for another.
In chapter 10 it talked about cognitive behavior therapy that was found by Ellis. I like that this therapy gives the client homework and the system REPT is set up for individual clients to help themselves with making decisions. I don't like that just like behavior therapy this therapy is designed to help people on a couple sessions.
one of the concepts of REBT process I like is that it does not categorize a person as good or bad or worthy or unworthy. I agree with the therapist and client both taking part in choosing realistic and self enhancement goals.
